Historic tax cut laws, a top House priority, now in effect

On July 1, several major new laws reflection Georgia House of Representatives priorities became law. We are especially proud of the tireless work of the House Ways and Means Committee members and staff in crafting the historic tax cuts, which will simplify, streamline and lower taxes record numbers of Georgia workers and families in every corner of the state.

Other legislative highlights that are now law also include:

  • HB 974: Strengthening election security
  • HB 1015: Lowering the state income tax to 5.39%
  • HB 1017: Bolstering protections for Georgia’s property owners
  • HB 1021: Increasing the child tax exemption to $4,000 per dependent
  • HB 1339: Reforming Certificate of Need requirements and expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare
  •

We also look forward to the new FY 2025 budget priorities now in effect, including:

  • $2,500 pay raises for teachers
  • $45,000 annually to every public school for school safety resources
  • $3,000 pay raises for state law enforcement officers
  • $10.7 million for prison security upgrades

We are also grateful for the strong partnership not only from our House colleagues, but from leadership and Senate members as well. Without a combined commitment and effort, these important initiatives would not have made it to the finish line.
